Introducing our new charity partner - Hestia

Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI) UK Charity Committee is pleased to announce its new partner Hestia. Hestia is a charity supporting those in crisis including; survivors of domestic abuse, modern slavery and people struggling with their mental health.

Hestia was founded over fifty years ago and has since grown to support nearly 20,000 adults and children in crisis across London every year, as well as having several national initiatives to prevent domestic abuse. They support people that may be vulnerable, lonely, isolated and forgotten. 

The pandemic brought the issue of domestic abuse to the forefront of the news. Between April and June 2020, there was a 65% increase in calls to the National Domestic Abuse Helpline compared to the first three months of that year. The increasing demand for domestic abuse services puts a strain on these charities, which is why it is more important than ever to support them. According to Hestia:

• 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men experience domestic abuse.
• There was a 30% increase in demand for refuge spaces and support in the first quarter of 2022.
• The cost of rehoming a single mum with two children is now £5,000 more than it was two years ago.
• Domestic abuse accounts for 1 in 8 of all crimes reported to the police in London.

In London, Hestia provides refuges for women and children experiencing domestic abuse. Earlier this year, the TMHCCI Marketing team volunteered in one of these refuges and put on a pirate and mermaid party for the families. It was a great experience with lots of glitter, party games and smiles all round! 

We are excited to embark on this partnership with Hestia and see what we can achieve together. Not only can we make a positive impact in our communities, but our employees can also engage and learn about an issue that affects too many people. Volunteers have run a very successful (and glittery) ‘Pirates and Mermaids Party’ for families in one of our refuges, and more volunteers have already signed up to bring festive joy to another four of our refuges this Christmas!

Over the next three years, with TMHCCI by our side, we will be able to reach and support thousands of women and children recovering from domestic abuse; creating lasting change and a brighter future for families across London and beyond."
