Tour de Tokio Marine HCC

Andre cycling

Earlier this year, Andre Schneider, team leader for property underwriting, pedalled his way around Europe for a charity cycle tour of Tokio Marine HCC’s continental offices. He fundraised for two German children’s charities close to his heart: Frühförderung in Herne (Frühförderung - Lebenshilfe Herne / Wanne-Eickel e.V. (lebenshilfe-herne.de)) and Düsseldorfer Kindertafel (Willkommen bei der Düsseldorfer Kindertafel (duesseldorfer-kindertafel.de)).

Kickstarting his journey from his native Düsseldorf, Andre cycled through Luxembourg, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam, before returning to Germany. The overall distance totals more than 1,430km with an altitude of 9,500m – raising more than €6,500 for the two charities!

Since his kick-off took place on a Sunday, he cycled past the closed Luxembourg headquarters, making his first stop of the Tour de Tokio Marine HCC in Paris. The hilly terrain in the French countryside were made all the more difficult by the wet and windy weather! En route to Brussels, he experienced plunging temperatures cycling in the early hours of the morning but was greeted with a warm reception from his Belgian colleagues: some had kindly baked him delicious cakes in Brussels, which were tasty fuel after a long day’s cycling. On the last leg of his trip, Andre stumbled upon the King’s Day celebrations in Amstelveen in Holland. Everyone was dressed head-to-toe in orange — the country’s national colours.

Andre’s challenging mission was fuelled by the support and encouragement of his family, friends and Tokio Marine HCC colleagues: he fundraised a grand total of €3,500, which was then increased up to €6,500 by the TME Charity Committee. He donated the funds to two children’s charities close to his heart in his local Düsseldorf — Frühförderung and Kindertafel — which support disabled infants and provide food banks for school children in need. Andre recognises the impact of these charities, in improving the lives of little ones and giving them the happiness and care they deserve.

Giving back to the community is profoundly important for Andre so having a charitable aspect to the personal cycling challenge was vital for Andre. This is why he is grateful for the support he has received from the TME Charity Committee, particularly from the CSR, HR and Marketing departments to share his message across the company.

At Tokio Marine HCC International, we wholeheartedly support and encourage our employees' charity fundraising efforts. Whether you want to go the distance with a charity cycle or choose an activity close to home, the UK and TME Charity Committees are here for support!
