Professional Sports Disability insurance is an accident and illness policy purchased to insure for the financial loss suffered when an individual is unable to participate in their occupation as a professional sportsperson, on a temporary or permanent basis. This product can benefit any individual or company with a relevant financial interest, from players and teams to national associations, sponsors or agents. Coverage includes:
- Accidental death – if an athlete dies as a direct result of an injury
- Permanent total disablement – if an athlete’s career ends prematurely because of an injury or illness
- Temporary total disablement – if an athlete is temporarily unable to participate in their occupation due to an injury or illness beyond a specified period (known as an excess)
