At Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI), Pride Month isn’t just a calendar event - it’s a reflection of who we are and what we stand for. We aim to always back up our words with actions, so we organised a series of events and initiatives to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, amplify diverse voices, and reaffirm our commitment to building a workplace where everyone belongs.
Across the month of June, we shared stories, had conversations and held celebrations that champion inclusion in all its forms.
We kicked things off with a powerful evening hosted by our charity partner, Facing History & Ourselves, and featuring Professor Binna Kandola. His latest book, How to Build LGBTQ+ Inclusive Workplaces, offers thought-provoking insight into what inclusion really looks like in today’s working world.
Later in the month, Olympic gold medallist Helen Richardson-Walsh joined us in our St Botolph office for a Lunch and Learn session. She shared her inspiring story of triumph, teamwork, and what it meant to make history alongside her wife as the first same sex married couple to win an Olympic medal while playing in the same team.
Of course, Pride is also about joy and celebration and what better way to embrace that than with our fabulous Drag Quiz. We teamed up with colleagues from our sister company Tokio Marine Kiln, for an evening of high energy, big laughs, and a dazzling drag performance.
We’re also proud to support Link, the LGBTQ+ Insurance Network, with opportunities to connect across the industry and even take part in this year’s London Pride Parade. Plus, we’re teaming up with Clyde & Co for their Pride Party.
For those looking to explore inclusion on their own terms, we partnered with PepTalk, featuring voices like Dame Inga Beale, former CEO of Lloyd’s of London, sharing her story of leadership and authenticity. All employees can also access Headspace’s LGBTQ+ mental health resources providing guidance and support on a range of issues, everything from coming out to finding your community.
All these initiatives are made possible by our Workplace Group, the team behind our diversity and inclusion, employee wellbeing, and learning programmes.
As Pride Month draws to a close we invite you to reflect and do more than just celebrate. We ask you to carry your actions beyond June, take a step, have a conversation and show up, because inclusion isn’t just a policy. It’s a practice that starts with everyone having a sense of belonging.
