International Town Halls

Being a highly diversified business with an international reach has many benefits, but that scope and geographic spread can sometimes mean fewer chances to connect in person.

So, to bridge the digital gap, Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI) recently held a series of in-person Town Halls across the UK and Europe, with events taking place as far afield as London, Barcelona, Luxembourg, Paris, and Bridgend. A strong workforce is a combination of belonging and connection, so it is important that we prioritise these opportunities for our employees to come together in person to connect with each other and our leadership team.

The meetings were a good opportunity to set the scene for the year ahead, particularly with the appointment of Thibaud Hervy to CEO of the International business following the promotion of Barry Cook to Deputy CEO of the broader TMHCC company. This was Thibaud’s first opportunity to address the organisation in his new role and he was joined by Simon Button, the new Chief Underwriting Officer - International, as well as Des Burke, Group Chief Operating Officer, Graham White, Chief Risk Officer, Karen Gent, Chief People Officer, Jean O’Neill, Chief Financial Officer and Kazuya Takahiro, Chief Underwriting Officer, J-Business.

The gatherings were more than a business update; they were an opportunity to look ahead. Thibaud explained that one of the biggest developments is Tokio Marine GX (TMGX), a brand new proposition designed to support the fast-growing renewable energy market. With nearly $10 trillion expected to be spent on physical renewable assets every year, the opportunities for insurance are huge. Together with the extensive offshore marine expertise held in the wider Group, the new proposition will support energy providers at every stage of their transition to renewables.

The TMHCCI leaders took the opportunity to spotlight the great work of the individual teams and explain to all employees the business strategy for years to come and the important role we all play in getting there. The message was clear—the TMHCCI business is stronger than ever and will continue to build on the strong foundations already in place, developing new propositions and approaches to managing constantly evolving risks.
