Tokio Marine HCC Underwriter Q&A with Adam Bradford

Thursday, October 26, 2017

Here at Tokio Marine HCC, we have great people in our teams across London and the regions with valuable experience and expertise. To get to know our experts a bit better, we’ll be profiling a series of Q&As. This edition is the turn of Adam Bradford, our Bristol Manager – Professional Risks.

  • What is your role at TMHCC?

I am based in our Bristol office where I work as a Professional Indemnity manager within the Professional Risks department; I also manage the day-to-day running of the office. In my underwriting role I look after new business, renewals and mid-term adjustments. I am now the “product champion” for our Management Consultant insurance product. I focus on ensuring that our insurance offering is up to date with the constant developments in this business sector, and I continually speak to brokers about our product and educate them about why we know this sector inside out!

  • What do you know now that you wish you had known when you first started in the industry?

…..first impressions always count! The insurance industry is a very close community and it is imperative to make the right first impressions with everyone you meet. People move around the sector regularly and you never know who you will be working with next, so I always treat people with respect regardless of their position. It is always best to never burn professional bridges!

  • What is the biggest change you have seen over the past five years in the insurance market?

The biggest change that I experienced is the rise and continuing rise of Managing General Agents (MGAs). It is clear that a high percentage of the insurance market now lies with MGA operations and this is set to grow even more in the long term. The traditional MGA set up is no longer in existence, and the new operations are creating niche products which are giving the big insurers a run for their money.

  • What motivates you on a Monday morning?

Having just had a baby boy, my motivation is definitely making sure that I provide security for my family.
