Celebrating Earth Day 2025

By Nate Hayward

The 2025 theme for Earth Day is: Our Power, Our Planet, inviting everyone around the globe to unite behind renewable energy and to triple the global generation of clean electricity by 2030. That feels like a big ask to make of individuals, but the reality is that we all have the power to make a difference and contribute to this mission, no matter how small that contribution may seem. And colleagues across Tokio Marine HCC - from London to Houston and Paris to Salem, Ma. – have been prepping to play their part in this collective effort.

On March 29th, the team in Houston took part in the Bays ‘N Bayous Trash Bash event at Bear Creek Park, the single largest one-day waterway clean-up event in the State of Texas. Founded in 1994, Trash Bash is now active at 16 sites across the Galveston Bay Watershed with more than 4,000 volunteers taking part annually. And the event has a real impact every year. Since 1994, more than 117,000 volunteers have collected over 2,400 tons of trash, 22.5 tons of recycling and a staggering 12,000 old tyres.

Global Collaboration

Starting on April 17th, The TMHCC Working Parents and Caregivers Network kicked off a weeklong celebration for Earth Day. Members of the community participated in family friendly Earth Day activities including a photo content, clean energy quiz, trivia and much more!

But our colleagues in Houston aren’t the only ones playing their part in this year’s Earth Day.

International Colleagues Celebrate Earth Day

In our London offices, there are a host of activities taking place such as fishing for plastic on the world famous River Thames , holding a seasonal farm event to learn more about urban farming, hearing from Arctic explorer and climate scientist Felicity Aston, a series of environmental talks, and colleagues even have the opportunity to support the walrus population by counting thousands of them in satellite images vie the Walruses from Space initiative!

Across the English Channel in Paris, colleagues are taking part in an event held by Climate Fresk exploring the challenges and pressures of human activity on biodiversity. Of course, concern about climate change can’t and shouldn’t be a one day thing – we all need to play our part, as individuals and businesses, to limit the impact we have on the environment.

12 Tips for More Sustainable Travel

Our colleagues at On Call International in Salem, New Hampshire have pulled together a great list of the small things we can all do to make a difference – from choosing greener travel options and finding eco-friendly accommodation to volunteering locally and considering personal carbon offsetting.

In addition to all the events happening throughout our company, we pride ourselves on the wealth of expertise we have gained over 30 years supporting the renewable energy sector. We strengthened our commitment to the sector by acquiring GCube Insurance, who underwrite over 100GW of projects under construction or in operation in 40 countries around the world, spanning both established and emerging renewable energy technologies. And as this year’s theme reminds us, the power to effect change really is in our hands.
