Healthy Cities Challenge 2026: Thank you for stepping up

Throughout June, colleagues across Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI) came together to take part in the Bupa Foundation Healthy Cities Challenge. The global initiative encourages people to improve their health while supporting healthier, more sustainable communities through everyday movement.

Over 30 days, colleagues walked, cycled, ran and stayed active, taking part in local events, friendly competitions and volunteering opportunities across our offices. Our efforts demonstrated what can be achieved when we work towards a shared goal.

Our results

Together, 520 colleagues took part in this year's challenge, achieving some fantastic results:

  • 82,616,253 total steps
  • 313,007 active minutes
  • 36,394 miles travelled
  • 251,879 average steps per participant

That's an incredible collective effort. To put it into perspective: 36,394 miles is enough to walk around the Earth's equator almost one and a half times.

Every step contributed to something bigger. Across all participating organisations, more than 3.3 billion steps were recorded, unlocking £1 million from the Bupa Foundation to fund green community projects while encouraging healthier lifestyles and more active, lower-carbon travel.

Celebrating our top steppers

Congratulations to our overall top three steppers:

  • Andrew Matthews, Development Underwriter – 1,118,367 steps
  • Matthew Smith, Senior Underwriting Assistant – 1,041,619 steps
  • Maggie Cruz, Service Desk Analyst – 1,038,270 steps

Congratulations also to our highest-performing team by average steps, Manchester, Bristol and rest of the UK. The team is made up of our regional offices who averaged an impressive 387,631 steps per participant across the month.

A special shout out to our colleagues in Denmark, whose participation grew significantly this year thanks to the enthusiasm and encouragement of Mette Svitring, Bond Administrator - Surety. The team finished third overall and highest out of the European offices.

Making every step count

Healthy Cities was about much more than climbing the leaderboard. Throughout June, colleagues across our offices embraced opportunities to move more, connect with one another and support wellbeing in fun and engaging ways.

In London, colleagues were joined by TV and sports stars, Jodie Ounsley and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, at our Healthy Cities launch event, bringing plenty of energy to an afternoon packed with challenges and activities. Friendly competition continued with interactive games while teams logged steps throughout the month.

Leicester colleagues powered smoothie bikes, proving that a healthy drink tastes even better when you've earned it through pedal power.

In Bridgend, colleagues tested their skills in a virtual reality competition, adding a fun twist to staying active and encouraging everyone to get involved.

Healthy Cities also aligned with Volunteers' Week, giving many colleagues the opportunity to support local communities while staying active. From community gardening and plastic fishing to environmental projects and volunteering activities across our locations, colleagues demonstrated that every step could make a positive difference.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone at TMHCCI who took part, encouraged colleagues, organised activities and supported the challenge throughout June.

Healthy Cities showed how small actions, repeated every day, can create a meaningful impact. Whether you were aiming for the leaderboard, joining a lunchtime activity or volunteering in your local community, every contribution helped make this year's challenge a success.

Together, we supported healthier people, stronger connections and healthier communities. That's something worth celebrating.
